School departments:

Currently there are 5 different departments in school, including: nursing, obstetric, operation room, anesthesiology and medical emergency.

 

Nursing Department:

Shiraz MedicineUniversity is one of the first academic institutes in Iran offering an academic degree in Nursing Science. Hazrat –e- Fatemeh Nursing and Midwiferyschool, which was originally known as Nemazee Nursing Higher Education Institution with total area of 15,000 square meters and building area of 5246 square meters was established in 1332.

The department is dedicated to the establishment of nursing as an academic discipline and focuses on the advancement of nursing through education and research.

There are three main emphases of the Department of Nursing Science:

  • developing main research areas and the conducting research projects
  • developing curricula, teaching, and organizing of all the teaching-related matters
  • general work for the nursing profession and nursing care policies

Bachelor's degree

This is the first course plan in nursing which is based on scientific principles and Islamic values. Education at this stage leads to general nurses training which makes them able to assess patient's health, prepare and coordinate services among individual, family and community.

Its mission is to encourage the development of knowledgeable, committed, experienced, efficient professionals; Necessary to provide the most affordable and standard care for community health promotion. This can be attained through education, research and nursing knowledge development.

Master's Program

The Master's program in Nursing Science aims at deepening and enhancing the nursing-specific and research-methodological competencies that were acquired in a nursing (science) Bachelor’s program. The program prepares graduates for the planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of research projects and for the implementation of research findings into nursing practice. Beyond the context of research, graduates gain advanced nursing expertise and are hence also qualified to work in other academic fields of health care and nursing.

Doctoral Program

The Doctoral program in Nursing Science at the Hazrat –e- Fatemeh Nursing and Midwiferyschoolaims to contribute to empirical research and to the theoretical development of Nursing Science, building upon the research focus of the Department of Nursing Science. PhD program in nursing was established in 2004.

Emergency medicine department:

Emergency medicine department Founded in 2002, and a 2-years training program. Also, additional 2- years as bachelor degree.

Course objectives:

To train people who are able to perform critical medical emergency and immediate relief assistance to the injured and sick people, and transfer them to hospital if necessary.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Shiraz School Emergency Medicine Faculty to provide compassionate, state-of-the-art patient care; to commit to academic excellence in teaching and research, and to be leaders in the specialty of emergency medicine. We will work towards our mission in an environment that fosters personal and professional pride, satisfaction and growth.

 

Field Role:

 Emergency Department is prepared and equipped to provide comprehensive emergency care to patients of all ages to treat acute illnesses and injuries in accordance with their authorities till the physician treatment start for them.

Student adoption is just through semi-centralized exams. 

Anesthesia department:

Nurse Anesthesia is one of the options in the School of Nursing.  Nurse Anesthesia practice is based on a continuum of care beginning with preoperative assessment and culminating with discharge from the recovery area.

Nurse anesthetists interview and assess each patient and formulate and implement a plan of care to best meet individual needs.  Throughout the perioperative period, nurse anesthetists serve as patient advocates, provide emotional support, and collaborate with other health care practitioners to provide the optimum anesthetic experience.

Graduates are prepared to administer a full range of anesthetics to a wide variety of patients across the lifespan. Through an integrated process of classroom and clinical instruction, students develop the didactic knowledge base and clinical skills necessary for safe and effective practice.

 

The first year curriculum is devoted to advanced science courses, graduate core courses and specialty courses which form the basis for advanced specialty concepts later in the program.

The clinical component starts in the second year. During clinical experiences, increasing responsibility for anesthesia patient care under tutorial guidance is afforded. The application of theoretical knowledge to the realities of clinical practice is a dynamic process that enhances and enriches learning as well as prepares the graduate to function effectively and competently as a professional. The sequential design of the program permits the student to acquire the skills necessary to move along this continuum.

 

Course objectives: during this coarse plan, Students will be familiar with new anesthesia concepts and also its different Technique, equipment, supplies, drugs and care of patients under general to regional anesthesia in the stages before, during and after surgery (including general, specialty and subspecialty). Its other goal is,Familiarity with methods and principles of care in acute pain control and Medical emergency measures in a crisis situation.

Graduates in this field do their role to assist anesthesiologists in educational health centers, under direct supervision of an anesthesiologist physician.

Midwifery department:

The University of Shiraz offers midwifery degree courses to enable students to become competent, autonomous practitioners with highly developed practical skills and the ability to support women and their families with understanding and compassion.

 

 

Bachelor program:

The BSc Midwifery Degree is a full-time four year degree program offered by the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, Hazrat –e- Fatemeh School. Its mission is to:

Graduate competent nurses and midwives to meet the health needs of people locally, nationally and globally and create and disseminate knowledge, through the provision of education, research and thepursuit of activities that impact on all individuals and communities within an evolving society.

 

Course objectives: Training efficient and skillful experts engaged in education field and midwifery services in order to improve mothers and their children health.

Major role: Health educating and delivering health-obstetric care services to women of childbearing age to help reduce maternal and infant mortality rate. Also marriage and family counseling, prenatal and postpartum family planning are of its role.

Master program:

MSc Nursing program is a 2 year coarse plan which Students can enter with a completed bachelor’s degree and national entrance exam acceptance. It was found in 1989. The course is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to become confident, analytical and reflective practitioners who are able to make maximum use of resources including research in their day to day practice.

Total Msc courses: 40 units

Dissertation course: 6 units

 

Surgical Technologist department:

 

It’s a branch of medical science which during this period the students will be familiar with new principles and technology of surgery (specialty and subspecialty) in operating room. Also, they learn how to direct, care of patients at different stages (before, during and after surgery).

Course Duration: 4 years

Total Units: 130 units

Special - basic and clinical units: 84 units

Number of training courses in the field: 24 units

Thosewho graduate from associate's or bachelor's degree programs can obtain special post-baccalaureate certificates in operating room if accepted in national entrance exa

 

 

Course objectives:

These students learn how to monitor patients' vital signs, pass equipment to surgeons or, in some cases, help surgeons suture a wound.Students seeking an advanced degree in operating room and surgical nursing may wish to specialize in a particular surgical area, such as pediatrics or cardiovascular surgery. 

Course Duration: 2 years
